Adjuster Training Classes
PHC offers these courses to home office and independent adjuster and some agents. These classes are conducted at your location, or at the PHC home office in suburban Chicago, conveniently located near O'Hare airport. These classes are usually about 1 1/2 hours in length and come with a training manual. These courses are packed full of valuable information that property adjusters can immediately apply to high tech losses. CEU’s may be available.

PHC will also work with any accrediting or continuing educational program to assist adjusters in obtaining credit for these classes. All classes are taught by experienced PHC Technical Specialists with years of claims experience to add to the value of the information!

1. Lightning 101 - This course consists of a brief overview of the nature of lightning: how it occurs, points of entry into buildings and equipment, how it damages equipment, how to distinguish lightning damage from other electrical damage.  Repair issues such as "stressed by lightning", compromise of lifetime of equipment, and so forth are also covered. It is a non-technical overview, aimed at the the adjustor to amplify their background and knowledge of lightning with regard to covered causes and damage issues.

2. Phone System Claims – This is an overview of commercial telephone systems, general principles of operation (non-technical), standard terminology, typical damage that occurs from lightning or an electrical surge, repair issues such as "stressed by lightning," repair costs, replacement and repair issues, with a review of relevant claim issues and endorsements. Due to business interruption issues, phone system claims can be among the most urgent to resolve.

We'll show you how to get on top of the situation immediately, how to detect the 7 warning flags that spell uneccessary replacement or upgrades and enhancements and more. PHC shares over twenty-five years of experience in the telephone industry that will help you get to the bottom line fast!


3. Computer Claim Basics – This course is an overview of computer systems (non-technical), terminology, covering topics such as damage, repair and replacement costs, data recovery issues, virus and hacker damage, software licensing concerns. In addition to hardware, software and data issues, this seminar discusses certain endorsements such as precious papers, data vs. software, etc. A special part of the training discusses surge protectors; their operation, warranties, and subrogation issues.

 


4. Machinery 101 – This course consists of a non-technical overview of claim issues associated with common manufacturing machinery types such as CNC equipment, injection-molding machines, printing presses, lathes, tool & die, etc. Loss concerns unique to this type of equipment, such as new versus used, rebuild, refurbished equipment market pricing, corrosion resistance, pre-existing environmental problems, electrical control panels, and finished product damage will be explored.



Restoration Principles for the Adjuster -RPA


These next courses taken together comprise our RPA series. The intent is to provide training to the adjuster to assist them in making informed decisions on such issues as restore vs. replace, likelihood of recovery, reasonable and hidden costs and so forth.


5. Fire and Electronics – This course provides a more in-depth review of the damage mechanisms, equipment & environment stabilization needs, and damage assessment techniques associated with electronics and telecommunications equipment after a fire or smoke event. The significance of immediate response, protection of evidence, business interruption considerations, environmental control, and “top 10” questions to ask will be discussed. A brief tutorial on fire and smoke chemistry will be provided, along with case studies of what can go right and what can go wrong.


6. Water and Electronics – This course provides a more in-depth review of the damage mechanisms, equipment & environment stabilization needs, and damage assessment techniques associated with electronics and telecommunications equipment after a water event (roof & pipe leaks, condensation, flood, etc.). The significance of de-powering, drying & dehumidification, corrosion types, pre-existing contaminants, and water contents will be explored. A brief review of corrosion chemistry will be provided, along with case studies.


7. Advanced Damage Assessment - This course provides a technical review of the engineering and scientific principles associated with damage assessment of electronics, electrical systems, computer systems telecommunications systems, medical/laboratory equipment and machinery. Engineering issues associated with hardware & software damage claims, damage mitigation, environmental control and lightning/electrical surge will be covered. The chemistry of equipment damage from fire, smoke, water, particulates and gases will be discussed and detailed in case studies. Various damage assessment methodologies will be explored and restoration procedures examined.
